Used in China for more than two thousand years, gua sha is an effective massage technique used for a wide array of pain syndromes due to injury, trauma, or overuse.
A method of promoting blood circulation and reducing inflammation, gua sha involves rubbing the skin with a flat tool to facilitate pain relief. When a muscle gets contracted, it receives less fresh blood and oxygen. This contraction and diminished nourishment often leads to what we perceive as pain. With gua sha, we can bring fresh blood and oxygen to the tissues, inviting the muscle to release, and pain and tension to diminish.
What Is It Used For?
Gua sha is very effective in treating:
Migraines
Fevers
Morning Sickness
Promoting the healing of tendons and ligaments
Reducing pain associated with acute trauma, chronic muscle tension, and various sports injuries.
